  I'll also add that Comey's answer is 100% correct. The State Department has never stopped an FBI investigation. Outside of Nixon, I don't think they've even tried to.

  I think you may be taking the answer out of context. Comey was referencing if the Department of Justice could stop an investigation. He was NOT saying that Trump had never asked him to stop an investigation. Here's the transcript:

  HIRONO: So if the Attorney General or senior officials at the Department of Justice opposes a specific investigation, can they halt that FBI investigation?

  HIRONO: Has it happened?
  
  COMEY: Not in my experience. Because it would be a big deal to tell the FBI to stop doing something that -- without an appropriate purpose. I mean where oftentimes they give us opinions that we don't see a case there and so you ought to stop investing resources in it.   Do you think it's okay for the White House to lie about why Comey was fired saying it was because of the investigation of Hillary?

  Do you think it's okay for Trump to fire Comey because of the Russian investigation as he stated in his interview with Lester Holt?

  Do you think it's okay for Trump to give Code Word secretes to a hostile country?

  Do you think it's okay for Trump to jeopardize our intelligence relationships with Israel and potentially other allies?

  Do you think it's okay for Trump to ask the Director of the FBI to end an investigation into his former National Security Director?

  But - for the simplicity of our discussion - let's assume that Obama did give away secrets. Let's assume because of it he got lot's and lot's of people killed. Let's assume that Obama was absolutely the most reckless, horrible, malicious, traitorous person to ever hold office . . .

  Do you think that in anyway makes Trump's actions okay?

  Surely you can think that Obama was a bad President and simultaneously be alarmed by what Trump has been up to. These are not mutually exclusive beliefs.

  And Trump handing Israel's State Secretes over to the Russians on a silver platter? . . . pure coincidence.
